What is the Best Way to Answer “What Makes You Unique?”

What is the Best Way to Answer, “What Makes You Unique?” from HTSS Inc.

Question Originally Appeared on Quora: “What is the Best Way to Answer: ‘What Makes You Unique?’”

During a job interview, you’ll be asked some questions that are much harder to answer than others. Having to explain what makes you unique is awkward and definitely one of the more difficult questions to answer, but advance preparation is the key to success.

HTSS, Inc., one of the most successful temp agencies in PA, knows this question can make even the most prepared candidates freeze up. Essentially another way to ask “Why should we hire you?” coming up with a winning response isn’t as hard as you think.

Follow these tips to explain what makes you unique, and why this positions you as the best person for the warehouse job you’re trying to land.

Keep it Professional

There are lots of things that make you one of a kind, but most have nothing to do with working in a warehouse. Facts like your favorite band, the nickname your friends call you and pastimes you enjoy when you’re not at work aren’t what the interviewer wants to hear.

Instead, focus solely on details relevant to the position. For example, if you used to work in a front office environment, but moved to the warehouse because you enjoy working with your hands, this makes you unique, because you have a well-rounded understanding of how both sides operate.

Highlight Relevant Experience

Your background differs from every other candidate interviewing for the job, so use this to your advantage. Provide experiences from the professional life that have prepared you to excel in the position. For example, you might describe a problem you’ve helped solve in the past, that you would face in this new role. If possible, use numerical values to explain how your resolution made a positive impact on the company.

Mention Specific Skills

Over the course of your career, you’ve acquired a diverse skill set. When asked what makes you unique, use your skills to your advantage by highlighting areas that could be beneficial to the position that aren’t listed as requirements. Having more abilities than necessary could make you very valuable to the warehouse team because you might be able to help the company navigate other issues it’s facing or pitch in and assist team members as needed.

CEO Letter

As a staffing and recruitment professional for over  30 years, I have seen many changes in the industry. Over that time, I’ve witnessed a transformation in the way organizations view staffing services. Today, we see more and more companies using staffing services as a strategic tool, rather than just for temporary fill-ins.

At HTSS, Inc., our focus is on helping companies create proactive workforce plans. Our goal is to help our clients use staffing strategically to increase capacity, overcome hiring freezes, access specialized talent, better manage increased workloads, and enhance overall productivity.

For our candidates, we help to uncover truly rewarding job opportunities—jobs that are a match to each candidate’s skills, and jobs that offer key experience and growth potential.

We look forward to strengthening our relationships with our current clients and candidates, as well as forming new and exciting partnerships in the future.

Sincerely,
