3 Reasons to Supplement Your Staff With Temporary Help

Have you been contemplating the need for more employees in your office? Hiring new employees is an expensive and time consuming prospect. Before you decide to place that ad, consider working with your local staffing service to bring in temporary workers. Here are three reasons you should supplement your current staff with temporary help before making any hiring decisions.

  1. Staff up for busy seasons. You know as well as anyone that not every day in your business is exactly the same. Some seasons are balls to the wall busy and others can be pretty slow. Hiring full time staff to help manage the high demand times is costly and you then have to go through a layoff process when things slow down. Instead, consider bringing in temporary help to get you through these seasons. With temporary staff you can control the number of individuals you bring on based on your specific needs. They will be aware of the temporary nature of the job. You may also discover hidden gems among the temps and be able to call them back for future work or if you have a long term hiring need.
  2. Meet increased production demands. Your clients also have needs that may be erratic at best. When an unexpected project comes up that requires you to exert extra effort to meet the needs of your customers, it is good to have a reliable service to handle the increased staffing needs. You may be able to bring back people who are already familiar with your business and can hit the ground running. When the assignment is over your only investment will have been to the staffing service for providing additional workers when you needed them most.
  3. Trial period to test employee skills before committing. When you do need to hire full time staff the process can be challenging. Working with your local staffing company to source, pre-screen, and submit qualified candidates can decrease the time you spend away from your real duties as a manager or business owner. You can hire your next employee on a temp to hire basis to get a feel for how the perform on the job in real time. If you are dissatisfied for any reason, the company will find a replacement at no additional cost. If you are happy with the employee you can convert them to a full time staff member once their temp to hire period is over.
