Why You Should Consider a Warehouse Job This Summer Instead of Instacart

You’re looking for a summer job and thinking about becoming an Instacart shopper. The flexibility of choosing when and where you work each day sounds pretty appealing, so it has definitely piqued your interest.

While there are certainly benefits to working as an Instacart shopper, it’s also important to consider other options — specifically warehouse work. Just as with Instacart, warehouse jobs are available on a temporary basis, with hours that fit your schedule.

Want to learn more? Here’s why working in a warehouse this summer might be a better fit than becoming an Instacart shopper.

Three Reasons to Choose a Warehouse Job Over Instacart

Earn a Steady Paycheck

A variety of factors play into an Instagram shopper’s paycheck — i.e., number of orders completed, tips, etc. — which can make it hard to estimate earnings on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis. Therefore, you might have to scramble at the end of the month if you haven’t earned as much as you thought and still have bills to pay.

This isn’t the case with a warehouse job because you earn a set hourly rate. Sure, the number of hours you work might vary slightly from one week to the next, but you won’t have trouble estimating your earnings at the beginning of each month.

Avoid Putting Miles on Your Car

Some Instacart shoppers work solely on an in-store basis. However, most complete orders on their own from start to finish — i.e., they do the shopping, then deliver them to the customer. Since Instacart doesn’t provide company cars, you’re required to use your own vehicle.

Spending a good part of each shift driving around town can put serious wear and tear on your vehicle. Of course, this isn’t the case with a warehouse job, as you drive to work and park your car for the duration of your shift.

Make Valuable Connections

Who you know can get you far in life. Working in a warehouse is a team effort, which allows you to make lasting connections. If you make a good impression, many of these people will be happy to help you find a full-time job when the time comes.

On the other hand, working as an Instacart shopper is largely a solo act. Therefore, you probably won’t leave the job with too many new contacts to add to your network.
