Insights and advice about jobs and hiring in the Lehigh Valley.

The Three Steps to Get Back to Work if You’ve Been on Unemployment for the Summer

The pandemic put you out of a job months ago, but you’re ready to get back to work. The problem is, competition for Lehigh Valley jobs is more intense than ever.

You’re a skilled warehouse worker with a lot to offer any employer, but you really have to stand out from the crowd to be noticed right now. Here’s some advice to help you land a job you really want.

Three Steps to Get Back in the Warehouse

Polish Your Resume

Prior to COVID-19, if you spent several years working for the same employer, your resume is likely outdated. Take the time to refresh it with any new skills, experience and certifications you garnered at the company. Carefully proofread your resume several times and ask someone you trust to do the same.

It’s also important to realize the importance of tailoring your resume for each position you apply to. This will add a little extra time to the application process, but it’s an opportunity to really highlight your fit for the job. Plus, modern hiring managers expect this — and your competition will be doing it — so if you submit a generic resume, it will likely be tossed aside.

Reach Out to Your Network

In times of turmoil, people want to support one another. It’s very possible your network — i.e., former managers, colleagues and friends — will know about job openings at warehouses you might be interested in. A nod from them can give you a competitive advantage, because hiring decisions aren’t easy. If you’re recommended by someone the hiring manager trusts, they’ll be more likely to choose you, over a candidate without a known reference.

Consider Working With a Staffing Firm

Chances are, you’ve always steered your own job search. However, this is the first time you’ve had to find a job in a pandemic. Working with a staffing firm is free for candidates and grants you access to positions that aren’t posted publicly. Your recruiter will also help update your resume, prepare you for interviews and deliver valuable post-interview feedback that can make you a more competitive candidate.

CEO Letter

As a staffing and recruitment professional for over  30 years, I have seen many changes in the industry. Over that time, I’ve witnessed a transformation in the way organizations view staffing services. Today, we see more and more companies using staffing services as a strategic tool, rather than just for temporary fill-ins.

At HTSS, Inc., our focus is on helping companies create proactive workforce plans. Our goal is to help our clients use staffing strategically to increase capacity, overcome hiring freezes, access specialized talent, better manage increased workloads, and enhance overall productivity.

For our candidates, we help to uncover truly rewarding job opportunities—jobs that are a match to each candidate’s skills, and jobs that offer key experience and growth potential.

We look forward to strengthening our relationships with our current clients and candidates, as well as forming new and exciting partnerships in the future.

Sincerely,

Pat Howells
