4 Most Common Job Interview Questions and Answers

You’re ready to pursue new warehouse opportunities, but you’re less-than-excited about interviewing for them. If you’re working with a temp agency in Allentown, PA, they’ll help you find potential jobs that meet your needs and work with you to prepare for interviews.

While advance preparation is essential, there’s of course no way to know for sure what questions you’ll be asked. However, you can expect at least some variation of the four questions below. Here’s some advice to help you deliver a winning response.

4 Most Common Job Interview Questions and Answers

Tell me about yourself.

This will likely be the first question you’ll be asked. At first glance, it might not seem too difficult, but it can be deceptive. The interviewer really wants to know why you’re the right fit for the job, so focus on your skills, experience and interests relative to the position.

Start by briefly explaining where you’re at in your career, how you got to this place and why the position aligns with your future goals. It’s perfectly fine to mention a personal hobby or passion in your explanation, but tie it to the job.

Why are you looking for a new job?

Hiring managers like to ask this question for many reasons, but mostly to see if you’ll say anything negative about your job or employer. No matter what compelled you to start searching for a new job, it’s imperative that you put a positive spin on it — i.e., you’re ready for a new challenge.

If you say anything negative — i.e., you can’t stand your boss — it’s almost a given that you won’t get the job. No one wants to hire a potentially difficult employee, who will likely speak poorly about their company to another interviewer one day.

What are your greatest strengths/weaknesses?

Hiring a new employee is a big deal, so employers ask as many pointed questions as possible to find the right fit. While listing your strengths will undoubtedly feel easier than sharing your weaknesses, it’s important to choose strong points that directly relate to the job. This both shows your fit for the position and understanding of what it entails.

When it comes to your weaknesses, you might be tempted to share something that’s actually an asset — i.e., “I’m too organized” — but interviewers can see right through that. Instead, choose a weakness that won’t be a dealbreaker for the job and highlight how you’re working to improve it.

Why are you the best fit for the position?

This is your chance to really sell yourself, so it’s important to cover all the bases. Craft a response that highlights your relevant skills, genuine excitement for the work, and match for the company culture. Each of these elements are crucial to a hiring decision, as they showcase your all-around fit.

As a staffing and recruitment professional for over  30 years, I have seen many changes in the industry. Over that time, I’ve witnessed a transformation in the way organizations view staffing services. Today, we see more and more companies using staffing services as a strategic tool, rather than just for temporary fill-ins.

At HTSS, Inc., our focus is on helping companies create proactive workforce plans. Our goal is to help our clients use staffing strategically to increase capacity, overcome hiring freezes, access specialized talent, better manage increased workloads, and enhance overall productivity.

For our candidates, we help to uncover truly rewarding job opportunities—jobs that are a match to each candidate’s skills, and jobs that offer key experience and growth potential.

We look forward to strengthening our relationships with our current clients and candidates, as well as forming new and exciting partnerships in the future.
