Top Reasons Your Resume Might Be Going in the Trash

You’ve been looking for jobs hiring in Reading, PA for a while now, but nothing has come of your search. Despite applying for several positions you know you’re qualified for, you haven’t received any interview invitations.

Chances are, this has something to do with your resume. Since it’s the first impression you make on a hiring manager, you need it to shine. Here’s a look at a few common resume mishaps that could be keeping you from success.

Four Reasons Your Resume is Getting Passed Up

Lack of Tailoring

If it’s been several years since your last job search, you might not understand the importance of customizing your resume for each specific opportunity. While it definitely requires extra time and energy, this is a step you can’t afford to skip. Not only do employers expect it, tailoring also gives you the opportunity to really sell your fit for the job.

Spelling and Grammatical Errors

The importance of submitting a flawless resume cannot be emphasized enough. Mistakes on your resume make you look careless, lazy and send the impression you’re not that excited about the job. This doesn’t exactly present you in the best light, so do everything in your power to make sure your resume is perfect. Use spellcheck for your first round of proofreading, but review it several times yourself and ask at least one other person you trust to look it over as well.

Fancy Formatting

Beautiful styling and interesting graphics will make your resume look amazing, but elaborate formatting can actually keep the hiring manager from ever seeing your resume. Many companies use software to perform an initial resume scan, as this helps them weed out unqualified candidates. Often times, these programs don’t have the capacity to read graphics and other extravagant formatting options, so your qualifications won’t be noted.

All Talk and No Action

You know you’re a fantastic worker with plenty of achievements under your belt, but the person reading your resume hasn’t met you. Therefore, it’s important to drive your fit home by quantifying your accomplishments. For example, instead of simply saying you trained warehouse workers at your last job, note that you trained an average of 30 workers per year.

CEO Letter

As a staffing and recruitment professional for over  30 years, I have seen many changes in the industry. Over that time, I’ve witnessed a transformation in the way organizations view staffing services. Today, we see more and more companies using staffing services as a strategic tool, rather than just for temporary fill-ins.

At HTSS, Inc., our focus is on helping companies create proactive workforce plans. Our goal is to help our clients use staffing strategically to increase capacity, overcome hiring freezes, access specialized talent, better manage increased workloads, and enhance overall productivity.

For our candidates, we help to uncover truly rewarding job opportunities—jobs that are a match to each candidate’s skills, and jobs that offer key experience and growth potential.

We look forward to strengthening our relationships with our current clients and candidates, as well as forming new and exciting partnerships in the future.
